International Flight Academy’s investment in expanding its fleet amounts to €2.1M and involves seven new aircraft from Pipistrel.

IFA, a leading aeronautical training company in Portugal, has signed a contract with the multinational Textron Aviation for the acquisition – for 2.1 million euros – of seven aircraft from the renowned Pipistrel brand. Two of them will be the Velis Electro model, an all-electric plane powered by two water-cooled lithium batteries and with a flight autonomy of 50 minutes, plus reserves. This aircraft, which until now did not exist in Portugal, is the only one in the world certified by EASA – European Union Aviation Safety Agency.

The remaining five aircraft acquired by IFA are of the Explorer model, also from Pipistrel. In addition to all the modern instrumentation (Garmin G3X touch glass cockpit, advanced autopilot and GPS), the Explorers are equipped with ballistic parachutes that function as a last resort solution, exponentially increasing flight safety and the physical integrity of its occupants. According to José Madeira, Executive Director of the IFA Group: “These new aircraft meet the need to increase our fleet to meet the growing demand of students, both national and international, interested in our different pilot training courses”.
