Safety is the top priority for aircraft preventive maintenance. Potential problems can be detected early and resolved before they lead to performance issues. So this type of maintenance ensures continuous safety.

Preventive maintenance consists of small repair tasks without complex operations. This type of maintenance is done regularly to avoid major functional or structural problems.

Tasks included in preventive maintenance:
- Inspect and check for any wear
- Clean and lubricate certain aircraft components
- Replace some items
- Run tests
- Regular, progressive or annual inspections or checks of the aircraft

Each maintenance requires log entries in the aircraft maintenance logbook. Each entry must include the following data:
- A brief description of the work performed or references to data that are acceptable to the Administrator.
- The completion date.
- The signature, certificate number and type of certificate held by the person performing the work. The signature constitutes an "approval" for return to service for the work performed only.
